When Gmail contains several accounts, the selected inbox and active filters determine which messages you see. Use the account-specific view to check business email and avoid replying from a personal address.

Information to have ready
Identify the full business address and one useful fact about the message, such as its sender or subject. Keep access to that mailbox in webmail so you can compare folders if the phone does not show the expected item.
01 Read and find business email in Gmail on Android
- Tap your profile picture in Gmail and select the required hosting mailbox. Open its Inbox from the menu if needed.
- Tap a message to read it. Check the full sender address before opening links or attachments, particularly when the display name is familiar but the request is unexpected.
- Use search to find a known sender or a distinctive word from the subject. Clear the search afterward to return to the ordinary Inbox.
- Check Junk, Trash and other synchronised folders when a message is missing. Compare the same mailbox in webmail before assuming it was never delivered.
Confirm the expected result
Confirm that reading or moving a harmless test message produces the expected result in webmail. IMAP synchronisation may take a moment, particularly on a restricted mobile connection.
Troubleshoot unexpected results
An unread-only view, conversation grouping or another selected account can make email appear missing. If the app is offline, it may show cached messages but not the latest arrivals. Check connection and sync status before changing server settings.
A common question
Why does All inboxes show messages from another address?
All inboxes combines accounts added to the app. Select the individual business mailbox for a clearer view and verify the From field before replying.
