Connecting a Nabtech mailbox to Thunderbird securely

Thunderbird can use IMAP and authenticated SMTP to access a hosting mailbox. Configure the exact settings for your service and keep certificate validation enabled. A client area login password and an individual mailbox password are not necessarily the same.

Check access and requirements

Have the existing mailbox address and password plus the provider-supplied IMAP and SMTP settings ready. If Thunderbird already contains accounts, identify the outgoing server that this new mailbox should use.

01 Connect a Nabtech mailbox to Thunderbird securely

  1. In Thunderbird, use Account Settings and its add-mail-account control. Depending on the layout, this appears under Account Actions or the new-account setup page.
  2. Enter your display name, full email address and mailbox password. Let automatic discovery run, then select manual configuration if the detected settings do not match your service.
  3. Use IMAP for synchronised folders and enter the exact incoming hostname, secure port and SSL/TLS setting supplied by your provider. Configure authenticated SMTP separately with the full mailbox address.
  4. Re-test and save the account. In Account Settings, confirm that the mailbox is assigned to the intended outgoing SMTP server when several accounts exist.

02 Example: compare incoming and outgoing settings separately

Prepare two connection records using the values shown for the actual mailbox:

Example details
Mailbox: [email protected]
IMAP hostname: [supplied incoming hostname]
IMAP port and security: [supplied secure settings]
SMTP hostname: [supplied outgoing hostname]
SMTP port and security: [supplied secure settings]
Authentication: [method supported by this mailbox]

Enter the required username for each connection and assign the intended SMTP server in Account Settings. A successful inbox check verifies only the incoming side. Send an external test and inspect Sent in webmail to verify the outgoing side too.

Expected result: both connections use the correct service, and the message is sent with the intended business identity.

Test sending and receiving

Send a message to an independent mailbox, reply to it and compare Inbox and Sent with webmail. Check that the visible From address is correct.

Resolve setup problems

Do not confirm an unexplained permanent security exception. A certificate mismatch needs the correct hostname, valid certificate or corrected clock. If the password works in webmail but not Thunderbird, review the selected authentication method and outgoing-server association.

A common question

Why does incoming mail work but sending fail?

IMAP and SMTP are separate connections. The outgoing hostname, port, encryption mode, authentication and account association can be incorrect even when IMAP works.
