Redirecting a Plesk subdomain to another website

A redirect sends visitors from a subdomain to a different URL. Plesk forwarding hosting can provide that behaviour, but converting an existing hosted site to forwarding can remove its website data. For a temporary redirect that must retain the site, use an application or supported web-server redirect instead.

What you need before you begin

Back up the existing subdomain and record its hosting settings. Verify the destination URL and decide whether the move is permanent or temporary. The source hostname still needs working DNS and valid HTTPS coverage for visitors who use HTTPS.

01 Redirect a Plesk subdomain to another website

  1. Open the exact subdomain in Websites & Domains and review Hosting Settings.
  2. If a hosting-type conversion is appropriate, select the change control and choose Forwarding. Read the data-removal warning before continuing.
  3. Enter the complete destination URL, including its HTTPS scheme and intended path. Choose standard forwarding with the appropriate status, typically 301 for a deliberate permanent move or 302 for a temporary destination.
  4. Save only after confirming the source data is protected. Avoid frame forwarding for ordinary website moves because it can conflict with destination security policy and obscure navigation.
  5. Test the source over both intended HTTP and HTTPS entry points. Check the final destination and verify that it does not redirect back to the source.

How do I test the subdomain forwarding destination?

Inspect the redirect response and test a representative nested URL if path handling matters. Confirm whether paths are preserved or replaced by the chosen rule. A correct home-page redirect does not prove every old URL maps correctly.

Troubleshoot unexpected results

For a loop, check redirects at the source, destination, application and proxy. For an unavailable hosting-type control, ask support about subscription constraints. Do not delete the domain to force the change. To restore hosted content later, you need the saved files and configuration; changing the type back is not a data recovery operation.
