Planning and checking your WordPress backups

A complete WordPress website backup needs the website files and its database. The files include items such as themes, plugins and uploaded media, while the database holds much of the website's content and configuration. Our NabWP backup tools are designed around protecting that website data and making available recovery points visible in the management workspace.

01 Check completed backups and protect important changes

Our NabWP plans advertise daily backups, and the WordPress Manager can also provide website backup controls and scheduled backup tasks. Review the actual backup list, timestamps and completed status for your selected website. A scheduled task that has been enabled is not the same as a backup that has finished successfully.

Create an additional backup before a significant change, such as a redesign, major plugin update, database operation or staging deployment. Choose a recovery point based on the work you need to protect. A site that receives frequent orders, bookings or content changes needs particular attention to how much recent activity falls between backups.

02 Understand backup scope, retention and recovery

Retention and download or restore options should be checked in your service and backup settings. We do not assume a single retention period for every plan or backup source. Scheduled website backups and any available server backup service may have different lists, scopes and retention rules. Do not assume that a WordPress website backup also contains all email messages or every unrelated file in a hosting account.

Keep track of which backup was made before an important change and, where appropriate, retain a secure independent copy. Our team can help clarify the available backup source and recovery scope. A useful backup routine includes checking completed results and understanding how to restore, so you can make informed decisions when recovery is needed.

How often should a changing WordPress site be backed up?

  1. Confirm a completed backup and what files/database data it contains.
  2. Create an additional recovery point before a significant update, redesign or deployment.
  3. For a store or booking site, consider how many new records could appear before the next recovery point and plan protection accordingly.

Daily hosting backup advertising does not establish one universal retention period or every restore interface. Website backups and server automatic backups can appear as different sources. Confirm the selected source, completion time and recovery scope before relying on it for a particular incident.
