cPanel can restrict particular mailbox functions while preserving the address and its stored messages. This helps contain a compromised login or pause outgoing activity during an investigation without destroying evidence.

Prepare for the change
Identify the exact mailbox and decide whether the problem concerns authentication, incoming delivery or sending. Export necessary logs and arrange an alternate business contact before interrupting a production mailbox.
01 Suspend a mailbox login or outgoing mail without deleting it
- Open Email Accounts > Manage for the affected address and find Restrictions.
- Change only the required control. Login, receiving and outgoing-mail restrictions have different effects; read the displayed choices carefully.
- If outgoing messages are held rather than rejected, record that decision and review the queued mail before later releasing the restriction. A backlog can otherwise send unexpectedly.
- Save the settings and test the restricted function with a fresh connection. Existing mail applications may continue displaying cached messages.
- Investigate the cause, rotate an exposed password and remove unauthorised forwarding or application access. Re-enable the necessary function only after a clean test.
Confirm the expected result
The selected restriction should apply while the mailbox and its messages remain available for authorised recovery. Record the previous settings and the person responsible for approving restoration.
If the change does not work
A login restriction alone may not stop a website using other credentials from sending mail. Conversely, suspending all incoming delivery can disrupt customer replies. If unwanted sending continues, provide support with message IDs, timestamps and the suspected application instead of deleting the entire hosting account.
Does suspension change the password?
No. Restrictions and credentials are separate controls. Change compromised credentials, update legitimate devices and inspect other account access methods before returning the mailbox to normal use.
