Tracing a missing message with cPanel Track Delivery

Track Delivery helps trace a message through the hosting server’s mail handling. Use it to distinguish accepted mail, deferrals, rejections and failures before changing passwords or DNS records without evidence.

Gather the details you will need

Collect the full sender and recipient addresses, approximate sending time, subject and any bounce response. Identify the time zones used by the sending system and the delivery report when matching timestamps, and avoid posting a private message body in a public support request.

01 Trace a missing message with cPanel Track Delivery

  1. Open Track Delivery. Enter the recipient address when you know it and run the report.
  2. Choose the view for all messages or blocked and failed messages as appropriate. Narrow the time and address context to the actual test.
  3. Open the information/details icon for the matching entry. Read the result and routing information rather than relying only on a colour indicator.
  4. Record the message ID, relevant time, destination and full error text. Compare the outcome with mailbox quota, routing or authentication settings.
  5. Make one targeted correction, send a new uniquely identifiable test and inspect its new delivery entry. Keep the old evidence for comparison.

Confirm the expected result

A successful server delivery record should correspond to receipt at the intended next destination. If the destination is an external provider, acceptance there does not by itself prove placement in its Inbox.

If the problem continues

The report covers data retained by the server’s reporting system. Missing old entries can reflect retention limits, disabled reporting or another delivery route. Third-party filtering can also change visibility. Give support the collected identifiers when the record does not explain the failure.

What if a message is deferred?

A temporary deferral may be retried by the sending server. Diagnose the stated temporary condition and monitor the retry instead of repeatedly resending a large batch that could create duplicates later.
