The WHM account owner determines which reseller administers a cPanel account. Transferring that ownership changes administrative responsibility on the server; it does not by itself move the website to another machine or transfer a billing contract.

What you need before you begin
Confirm authorisation from the responsible parties, identify the new reseller and check their account and resource allowances. Record the existing package, owner and any branding or nameserver dependencies.
01 Transfer a cPanel account to a different reseller owner
- Open Modify an Account for the exact cPanel username. The Reseller Center’s ownership shortcut can lead to this same interface.
- Select the intended new Account Owner. Verify the reseller identity carefully rather than choosing a similarly named customer account.
- Review package access and resource implications. Keep an appropriate package assigned so the new owner’s limits remain meaningful.
- Save, then sign in through the authorised new reseller context and confirm the account appears with the expected management controls.
- Update the separate service and support records, and remove obsolete administrative access only after the handover is verified.
Confirm the expected result
The account should show the new owner without unexpected changes to website files, mail or IP allocation. Confirm the former reseller’s access now matches the intended handover.
Troubleshoot unexpected results
If the account disappears from one reseller view, ask a server administrator to verify ownership rather than recreating it. Root-level and other independently authorised access can still exist. Changing an owner does not automatically revoke every API token or application credential.
Are customer billing details transferred too?
No. Server ownership and the billing platform’s customer/service ownership are separate records. Handle both through their authorised workflows and reconcile them after the transfer.
