Quota Modification changes one hosting account’s permitted disk allocation. It can resolve a legitimate capacity problem, but the server and reseller must have sufficient available resources for the larger allowance.

Prepare for the change
Identify the account and record its current usage, quota and package. Check whether the change should be a permanent package upgrade or an explicitly documented temporary exception.
01 Change one account’s disk quota in WHM
- Open Quota Modification and select the intended account. Confirm the username and domain.
- Review current usage before entering a new allowance. Avoid setting a lower quota than the data already stored.
- Enter the supported quota value in the displayed units and save. Keep the change within the service and reseller authorisation.
- Recheck the account in List Accounts and cPanel. Allow any reporting refresh needed before judging the new effective limit.
- Test a small legitimate write, such as uploading a harmless file or receiving mail, then remove the test file if no longer needed.
Confirm the expected result
The account should have the intended storage allowance without losing existing data. Continue monitoring actual server free space because account quotas are limits rather than reserved physical capacity.
If the change does not work
If the value does not apply, investigate filesystem quota support, reseller permissions or package constraints with the server administrator. Increasing a mailbox quota alone cannot overcome a full parent hosting account, and increasing this account’s quota cannot create space on a full disk.
Does lowering a quota delete files automatically?
No. Lowering the quota does not automatically remove existing files. An account already above its allowance can fail to write new data or receive mail. Plan data reduction with its owner before applying a smaller allocation.
