Backup User Selection determines which cPanel accounts participate in scheduled account backups. Keep this selection aligned with service commitments so a migrated or newly created account is not silently left without the expected protection.

Information to have ready
Prepare the approved list of accounts and exceptions. Confirm scheduled backups and user-account backup data are enabled globally, and understand the separate policy for suspended accounts.
01 Choose which accounts participate in WHM backups
- Open Backup User Selection and locate each account by its exact username.
- Set the account’s backup toggle to the intended state. The interface saves individual changes automatically.
- Use an all-account action only when its scope matches the approved policy. Recheck specific exceptions afterwards.
- Review Backup Configuration for the suspended-account option. An enabled user toggle does not override a global exclusion of suspended accounts.
- After the next complete backup run, compare the produced account list with the approved selection and investigate every missing expected account.
Confirm the expected result
Each included account should have a fresh completed backup, and each exclusion should have an explicit reason, owner and alternative protection if required.
Troubleshoot unexpected results
If a selected account is absent, inspect global settings, suspension state, account quota and backup logs. A toggle alone does not prove that backup creation succeeded. Legacy and current backup controls can appear together on older installations; identify which system your operational policy actually uses.
Does disabling an account’s backup delete old copies immediately?
The selection controls participation in future scheduled backups. Existing-copy retention is a separate policy. Review actual retained data and deletion rules before promising that historical copies remain available or have been removed.
