Request a supported redemption restore through the API

domain-nexus, development

Use a redemption restore request only when the domain's registry state, provider capability and current offer allow recovery. A restore is not an ordinary renewal with a different label, and its fee or included term may differ.

01 Review eligibility before submitting

Method Resource Scope Idempotency-Key
POST /v2/domains/{domainId}/restore domains:restore Required
  1. Read the owned domain and reconcile it with the registrar when the stored lifecycle state may be stale.
  2. Confirm that the domain is in a recoverable state and that the selected registry/provider supports the restore operation.
  3. Read the current requirements for this domain and operation, including any additional fields or consent.
  4. Obtain the current restore offer or quote through the supported pricing workflow. Keep its currency, expiry and terms attached to the customer decision.
  5. Submit the restore against the returned domainId, including the applicable price_quote_id, permitted years, stable client_reference and required additional_fields.
  6. Store the returned operation ID and follow it to its final state. Re-read the domain and expiry after provider reconciliation.

Will a restore immediately bring the website back?

The registration recovery and the website's DNS, hosting and certificate state need separate checks. The restored domain may still require correct nameservers, a valid DNSSEC chain and an active hosting service. Verify those before reporting full service recovery.

What if the restore request times out?

Preserve the original idempotency key and client reference. Inspect the existing operation and provider outcome before retrying. A second fresh request can make billing and lifecycle reconciliation harder even when the first restoration is already underway.

Can the API recover any deleted domain?

No. Registry lifecycle windows and provider support determine eligibility. A domain that has progressed beyond a recoverable state may require another path, and availability after deletion is not guaranteed. If eligibility or pricing is unclear, pause the attempted order for an accurate review instead of submitting an ordinary renewal as a workaround.
