Export a portable copy of your DNS records

A DNS export gives you a readable record of the zone for migration, troubleshooting or your own change records. It contains DNS configuration. It does not contain your website files, databases, mailboxes or domain registration.

01 Download the zone

  1. Open the correct domain in DNS Manager.
  2. Refresh the records and wait for any intended pending change to complete. Exporting before completion can capture the earlier confirmed state.
  3. Open Bulk & setup and choose Export DNS, or use the export action shown in your records view.
  4. Select an available format. BIND zone format is the usual portable option for transferring ordinary records to another DNS provider.
  5. Save the file with the domain and date in its name, and keep a copy outside the hosting account you may be changing.

02 Check what you saved

Open the export in a plain-text editor. Confirm that it names the intended domain and includes the records you expect. Pay attention to MX priorities, long TXT values, DKIM keys and service-related subdomains. Do not edit wrapped or quoted TXT content casually; formatting that looks decorative can have meaning to a zone-file parser.

Keep a separate note of provider features that a portable file cannot reproduce. Examples include proxy settings, web redirects, mailbox forwarding, monitoring policies and provider-specific aliases. You will need to recreate these through the destination's supported tools.

03 Use an export with a backup

An export is useful for inspection and cross-provider movement. A managed backup adds the module's restore workflow and history for an eligible zone. Keep both before a substantial change when your package allows it. Neither replaces a website or mailbox backup.

Why is Export unavailable for my DNS zone?

Your package or administrator may have disabled exports, or the current backend may not expose the required records. Check that you are in the correct account and that you can read the zone. Contact support with the domain and the purpose of the export. Avoid collecting records from cached public lookups alone when you need a complete zone; public queries do not reliably discover every name in it.
