Why an available domain can fail between search and checkout

domains-dns

A successful domain search is a point-in-time result. It does not reserve the name while you compare products, enter contact details or complete payment. The registry must still accept the final registration request.

01 Why checkout can produce a different result

Another applicant can register the name between the search and submission. A fresh provider check can also reveal a premium price, eligibility requirement or unsupported operation that the initial display did not fully resolve. A validation or payment error is different from the name actually being taken, so read the specific response.

02 Reduce avoidable delays

  1. Decide the exact domain and the organisation or person that will hold it.
  2. Prepare accurate contacts and any documents required for the extension.
  3. Review the current price, term and premium conditions before authorising payment.
  4. Submit through one supported workflow and record the order or operation reference.
  5. Wait for the registration result before announcing ownership or setting up services that depend on the name.

What should I do if payment succeeded but registration failed?

Open the existing order and check its final status. Ask support to reconcile the payment with that specific domain operation and explain the applicable credit or refund treatment. Do not assume that a paid invoice proves the domain was registered, or that retrying payment will secure it.

For an API timeout, the request may have completed even though the response was lost. Use the documented idempotent retry and operation-status workflow. A fresh request with a new business identifier can create duplicate work or a second charge, depending on the operation.

Can I safely choose another name immediately?

First resolve whether the original registration completed. If it definitively failed and you approve an alternative, treat the alternative as a new purchase with its own spelling, contacts and price review. A similarly spelled domain is a separate asset, and automatically substituting it can send customers to the wrong address.

After success, verify the domain in your authenticated account, its recorded expiry and intended nameservers. Keep the confirmation with your portfolio records, then proceed with the website and email setup.
