Check HostBill domain synchronization and expiry information

hostbill, domains-dns

Domain synchronization updates HostBill from the connected registrar's information where the module supports it. Use it to maintain reliable expiry and status records, while checking that the domain is associated with the correct registrar account.

01 Configure automatic synchronization

  1. Open Settings > General Settings > Domain Settings > Synchronization and enable the feature for the intended supported modules.
  2. Select the domain statuses and scope. Decide whether to include all eligible domains or focus on those approaching expiry.
  3. Set a per-task limit and minimum interval appropriate to the number of domains and the provider's API limits. Ensure the schedule can cover the complete portfolio before important renewal deadlines.
  4. Review Transferred Out Detection carefully. Repeated synchronization failures can trigger a transferred-out classification according to this setting, so use a threshold and monitoring process that account for provider outages.
  5. Confirm the main automation task is running. Test a known domain manually and compare its HostBill expiry and status with the registrar.

02 Investigate a mismatch

Open the domain's details and log. Confirm the module, connection and provider identifier before changing dates. Check whether the domain is eligible for synchronization, especially after a manual import or while a registration or transfer remains pending.

If many domains fail together, investigate credentials, connectivity or a provider incident before classifying them as transferred away. For one domain, verify its ownership and actual provider location. Apply an import or association correction only after that evidence is clear.

Common questions

Does synchronization renew an expiring domain?

No. Reading current registrar information is different from submitting a paid renewal. Review the renewal order, payment and provider result separately.

Can I mark a pending domain active just to make synchronization work?

Confirm the registration or transfer has actually completed first. A billing status change cannot create a missing registrar record or establish that a domain belongs to the configured account.
