Map HostBill product settings to server packages

hostbill, resellers

Package mapping tells a HostBill provisioning module which provider-side plan to create. The customer-facing product name can differ from the server's package identifier, so verify the mapping directly instead of assuming matching names are enough.

01 Map and test a package

  1. Prepare the intended package in the control panel or provider account. Confirm its quotas, permissions and availability to the API identity used by HostBill.
  2. Open the HostBill product under Settings > Products & Services, then choose Connect with App. Select the correct module and tested server connection.
  3. Load the provider's values where the module offers that function. For the documented cPanel module, use Get values from server and choose the appropriate Plan Name.
  4. Review additional module settings that may affect the delivered account. In a cPanel shared-hosting product, ensure the reseller setting matches the intended account type. Grant shell access, dedicated IPs or reseller privileges only when included and authorised.
  5. If multiple connections are selected, confirm the package exists with equivalent meaning on each eligible server. Check automatic-selection availability and account-capacity limits.
  6. Create a disposable test service and inspect its actual plan and limits in the provider's panel. Verify that the HostBill record points to that specific account and server.

02 Change an existing mapping carefully

Record which products and existing services use the old package before renaming or deleting it at the provider. Test a supported upgrade or package-change workflow on a controlled account. A change to the configuration for future orders does not establish that existing accounts were updated.

03 Example: keep the sales name separate from the server plan

Your catalogue might call a product Business Hosting, while the cPanel package available to the reseller is agency_business. In the product's Connect with App settings, retrieve the server values and select that exact package under Plan Name. Do not enter the marketing name unless it is also the real package identifier.

Create one controlled test service and compare its delivered package, disk allowance and mailbox limits with the approved offer. If a second server can receive orders for this product, repeat the check there. The expected result is the same promised service on every eligible connection, even when the catalogue wording is more readable than the underlying plan name.

Common questions

Why is a package missing from the retrieved list?

Check the selected server, API permissions and package ownership. A reseller credential may see only the packages assigned to that reseller. Refreshing a list cannot make an unauthorised package available.

Can I reuse a resource ID on another server?

Only when the provider documents that identifier as portable. Server-local templates, networks and resource IDs often refer to different objects elsewhere. Use a separate reviewed product mapping when necessary.
