Troubleshooting NordVPN connections and website access

When a website stops working while NordVPN is connected, determine whether the problem is the internet connection, the VPN connection or that particular website. A targeted test is more useful than reinstalling applications or changing many network settings at once.

01 Work through the connection in order

  1. Record the device, operating system, NordVPN app version and exact error. Check that your subscription is active and the device clock is correct.
  2. Test basic internet access. If permitted on your network, briefly disconnect the VPN and open an ordinary HTTPS page. Avoid sending sensitive information during a diagnostic test on an untrusted network.
  3. Reconnect using another suitable server location. A problem affecting one exit server may not affect the entire service.
  4. Restart the app and check for an official update. Review whether another VPN, security application or organisation policy is interfering with the connection.
  5. Use the current vendor instructions for changing a supported protocol or network setting. Change one item at a time and record the original value.
  6. Test the affected application again and restore any temporary diagnostic settings after you have identified the cause.

What should I check if only one website fails through NordVPN?

The website may restrict VPN traffic, require an account verification step or have a regional availability policy. Compare the exact error with a normal connection where permitted. Do not interpret a CAPTCHA or access restriction as proof that your hosting account is suspended.

02 When local devices disappear

Printers, shared folders and other local services can be affected by VPN routing or local-network settings. Review the app's supported local access options and your organisation's policy. Do not disable a firewall globally to make one printer work.

03 What to send to support

Provide the time and timezone, device type, connection type, selected location and a redacted error screenshot. Explain whether the issue affects all sites, one app or only a particular network. Logs should be shared through a private support channel after removing unnecessary personal information.

For access to your Nabtech control panel, also check whether repeated failed logins caused an account or network block. Fix saved incorrect credentials before retrying, so the same device does not immediately recreate the problem.
