WordPress revisions can help recover an earlier saved version of a post or page. Compare the available versions and restore the intended content without replacing the entire live database.

01 Preserve the current work first
Copy any unsaved text you may want to keep into a secure local document. Note what you are trying to recover, such as a deleted section or wording from before a review. Revisions are not guaranteed to contain every keystroke, and their availability depends on the site's configuration and saved history.
02 Compare and restore
- Open the relevant post or page and find its revisions control in the document settings or editing interface.
- Open the available revision history and compare versions using the controls provided by your WordPress release.
- Check dates, authors and changed text. Select the version that contains the intended material rather than simply choosing the oldest or newest entry.
- Use the restore action for that revision, then review the editor and save or update as required by the workflow.
03 Verify the recovered content
Preview the public page and confirm the specific missing text is present. Check links, images, formatting and any edits that were made after the restored version. If only one paragraph was needed, copying that paragraph from a comparison may be preferable to replacing a whole page with an older state.
A revision does not necessarily restore every external setting or plugin record associated with a page. Navigation menus, theme templates, form submissions and media files have separate storage or histories. Treat the revision as a content recovery tool with a defined scope.
What if the revision I need is unavailable?
Check whether the content was never saved, whether revisions are limited, or whether you are looking at a different page with a similar title. Do not delete current content to force a revision entry.
If a backup is the only remaining source, plan a selective recovery where possible. Restoring the whole database can overwrite newer orders, comments and edits. Give support the page URL, approximate time of the desired version and exactly what needs to be recovered so the recovery scope stays narrow.
