When WordPress reports that a save or update failed, preserve your new text before refreshing or leaving the editor. The browser may still contain work that never reached the database.

01 Protect the current draft
Copy the affected text, or the editor's available copy-all-blocks output, into a secure local file. If the page contains private information, avoid pasting it into a public note-sharing service. Record the error message and the approximate time of the failed save.
Do not assume that repeated clicks on Update will solve the cause. An expired login, failed REST request, network interruption or security rule can prevent saving even while the editor continues to display your changes.
How can I check whether WordPress saved the failed update?
- Keep the original editor tab open while you preserve the work.
- Open the post list or a separate editor view in another tab and check the latest saved content and timestamp.
- If authentication expired, sign in again through the legitimate site and return to the original tab.
- Retry a controlled save only after the likely interruption is resolved. Confirm the success message.
- Reload a separate view and compare the specific text that was previously missing.
02 Use autosaves and revisions carefully
WordPress may offer a newer browser backup or autosave, depending on the circumstances. Compare it with the current saved version before restoring. Another editor may have made legitimate changes while your connection was interrupted.
If only some paragraphs are missing, merge those deliberately from your preserved copy rather than overwriting the whole page with an older draft. Keep the local copy until the database version is verified.
03 Investigate recurring failures
Provide support with the affected URL, exact error, browser and whether a small test draft can save. Avoid sending authentication cookies or full network logs containing private tokens without sanitising them.
If the problem appears only with one block or embedded code, identify that component on a draft copy. Do not remove an entire article or disable security controls indiscriminately just to make the error disappear. A successful recovery includes confirming the content is stored and the underlying save failure is understood.
