Using the Query Loop block for a curated post list

wordpress

A Query Loop displays a selected set of posts using a repeated layout. It is useful for a news section or topic landing page where new matching posts should appear automatically without editing a manual list each time.

01 Define the list's purpose

Decide which content type should appear, how it should be ordered and how many items belong in the section. A homepage highlight list and a complete category archive serve different purposes. For a curated section on an ordinary page, use an explicit custom query rather than accidentally inheriting an unrelated template query.

02 Create the loop

  1. Insert a Query Loop and choose a suitable starting pattern or blank layout.
  2. Select the parent Query Loop in List View and review its query settings, including inheritance, content type, order and available filters.
  3. Inside the Post Template, arrange dynamic blocks such as Title, Featured Image, Date and Excerpt. These repeat for each result.
  4. Ensure the title or another appropriate element links to the individual post.
  5. Set a reasonable item count and add pagination only when the section is intended to expose more results.

Which blocks repeat for every post in a Query Loop?

A normal Paragraph placed inside the repeated Post Template can display the same wording for every result. Use dynamic post blocks for information that should come from each article. Place a section introduction outside the repeated template if it should appear once.

03 Verify selection and layout

Check several known posts against the query criteria, including a newly published matching post. Confirm that drafts and unrelated categories are not appearing unexpectedly. Review missing featured images and long titles, because real content often varies more than a demonstration layout.

If the loop is empty, check publication status, filters and content type before changing the design. If every item shows the current page's title, inspect the nested block context and whether the correct dynamic Title block sits inside the Post Template.

Keep the list efficient and readable. Loading an entire archive into a decorative homepage section can increase page weight and make navigation harder instead of helping readers find useful content.
