Current October CMS deployment uses its supported installer or Composer workflow and requires the appropriate project license. Old one-click instructions for an early October CMS release should not be used as a production standard. Prepare an empty destination and a compatible supported PHP environment first.

01 Prepare the application environment
- Review the current October CMS installation and production requirements. Confirm the needed PHP extensions, database, Composer availability and project license.
- Create a database and user scoped to that application. Keep the credentials out of public files and source control.
- Prepare an empty project directory and the public document-root arrangement recommended by October CMS. Back up any existing site before changing its domain mapping.
02 Install with the supported workflow
When your plan provides the required shell and Composer environment, the current vendor workflow creates a new project and runs its installer and migrations. Use the exact version and deployment method you selected; do not run these commands over an existing live application.
composer create-project october/october myoctober
cd myoctober
php artisan october:install
php artisan october:migrate
The web installer is another vendor-supported option where appropriate. Supply the project license through the supported prompt, set a strong administrator credential and remove installation access when instructed. Do not expose a development server as the production hosting endpoint.
03 Verify and maintain the site
- Open the backend, create a test page and check the public site, media and form delivery. Verify that production debug output is disabled.
- Confirm writable storage paths and the scheduled or queued work used by your project. Check both web and CLI PHP compatibility.
- Before upgrades, back up the database and files and test themes and plugins in a copy. Composer authentication failures may involve project licensing or credentials; do not bypass package verification to continue.
A common question
Does a hosting account include every October CMS license or paid plugin?
No. Confirm the licenses supplied with your actual order and those you must obtain from the publisher. The installation mechanism does not grant rights to paid extensions.
