FileZilla Client transfers files between your computer and an authorised hosting account. Install the Client application when you want to connect to a hosting server; FileZilla Server is a different product for operating a file-transfer server.

01 Check access and requirements
Use a supported Windows installation and download from the official FileZilla project. Confirm the installer matches your system and avoid third-party download sites that repackage the application.
02 Install FileZilla Client on Windows
- Open the official FileZilla website and choose the FileZilla Client download for your operating system.
- Download the installer and review its publisher information and any operating-system security prompt before running it.
- Read each installation screen and the components or optional offers shown by that particular installer. Select only the software and options you intend to install.
- Finish installation and open FileZilla Client. Allow normal application updates so protocol and security fixes are available.
- Prepare the hosting service’s hostname, username, supported secure protocol and port before creating a Site Manager connection. Keep passwords in a trusted password manager where practical.
03 Confirm the expected result
The installed application should identify itself as FileZilla Client and display local and remote file panes. No hosting connection is created merely by installing it.
04 Prepare FileZilla before connecting to your hosting account
Download FileZilla Client from its official distribution source and review the installer carefully. The client is the application you use to connect to a server; installing FileZilla Server on your own computer is not required to upload website files to our hosting.
Obtain the correct host, protocol, port, username and permitted directory from your service details. SFTP and FTP with TLS are different protocols, so do not substitute one simply because a port number looks familiar.
What should I check on the first connection?
Review any server identity or certificate prompt. Compare it with the connection details provided for your service instead of accepting an unexpected identity automatically. Then verify the remote path before uploading. A successful connection does not prove you are looking at the intended website's document root.
Start with a harmless test file in a permitted location and remove it after checking access. Avoid uploading database exports, private keys or configuration backups into a publicly reachable folder. If the connection fails, send us the protocol, hostname and redacted log message. Do not send a saved Site Manager export containing passwords.
What if Windows blocks the installer or I installed FileZilla Server instead?
If Windows blocks the installer, verify the download source and signature rather than disabling system protection broadly. If you accidentally installed FileZilla Server, uninstall it through the operating system if it is unnecessary and install the Client instead. Never download an unknown “hosting fix” executable to solve a connection problem.
