cPanel File Manager can move deleted items to Trash unless permanent deletion was selected. If the item is still there, restore it promptly before emptying Trash or making further changes to the original path.

What you need before you begin
Identify the missing file’s original directory and approximate deletion time. Check whether the application has recreated a file with the same name. Avoid overwriting newer valid content during recovery.
01 Recover a recently deleted file from cPanel File Manager Trash
- Open File Manager and use View Trash where available. Inspect the deleted items rather than creating an empty replacement first.
- Locate the intended file or folder and verify its name and original location. If several versions exist, compare available details before choosing one.
- Select the item and use Restore. Read any destination or overwrite prompt carefully.
- Return to the original folder and inspect the recovered content and permissions. Test the affected website feature.
- Create a fresh backup after confirming the recovery, then review why the file was deleted so the same cleanup process does not remove it again.
Confirm the expected result
The original path should contain the expected content, and the application should work without missing-file errors. For a folder, verify representative nested files rather than checking only that the folder name returned.
Troubleshoot unexpected results
If Trash is empty or deletion bypassed it, use an available backup or recovery point. Do not assume server storage can undelete a permanently removed file. A database record or mailbox removed through another tool will not necessarily appear in File Manager Trash.
Does emptying Trash free space immediately?
It removes the retained deleted files, but quota displays can update later and other storage may still dominate usage. Confirm the files are no longer needed before emptying Trash; that removes this simple recovery route.
