Configure HostBill currencies and exchange rates

hostbill, resellers

Configure additional currencies in HostBill so customer prices, invoices and gateway charges remain understandable and reconcilable. Decide whether you want converted prices or a separately maintained commercial price list before exposing a new currency.

01 Add and test the currency

  1. Open Settings > General Settings > Currency & Tax Settings > Additional Currencies.
  2. Choose Add new currency. Enter its three-letter ISO code, display symbol or suffix and suitable number format. Use an identifying code when a symbol such as a dollar sign could refer to several currencies.
  3. Enter the conversion rate relative to the main currency as required by the screen. Check the direction with a known sample amount before saving customer-facing prices.
  4. Decide whether the rate should update automatically. If enabled, verify the configured rate provider and the Update conversion rates task. Monitor for stale rates or provider failures.
  5. Review product, component and domain prices in the new currency. Include setup fees, discounts and taxes in the test basket.
  6. Check each offered gateway's currency support. Where background conversion is deliberately configured, confirm the actual payment currency and amount presented to the customer.

02 Verify financial records

Complete a controlled invoice and payment test. Compare the displayed invoice total with the provider charge, HostBill transaction and any conversion shown. Retain the appropriate currency context when reviewing historical records, refunds and reports.

Before changing your main currency or repricing existing services, plan a separate migration with accounting review. Editing a currency label is not a safe method for converting historical balances.

03 Example: review the same basket in two currencies

Your catalogue uses USD as its main currency and your business is evaluating an additional NGN price list. These currency codes identify the example, not an exchange-rate recommendation.

  1. Choose one product with its normal billing cycle and an approved addon.
  2. Record the main-currency basket, including setup fees and tax.
  3. Switch to the additional currency and inspect the complete calculated basket.
  4. Check which gateway is offered and the currency it will actually charge.
  5. Compare the resulting test invoice and transaction with the provider record.

Expected result: the customer-visible price, charge and accounting record agree. Review existing recurring accounts separately before applying any repricing operation.

Common questions

Why did a gateway disappear after switching currency?

The module or merchant account may not support that currency. Review the integration's supported currencies and configured conversion behaviour.

Does updating an exchange rate prove every existing recurring amount changed?

No. Verify the pricing behaviour for existing accounts and any explicit price-update operation. Customer contracts and stored recurring amounts need a deliberate review separate from the rate feed.
