Trace a missing order email through its trigger, WooCommerce configuration and mail-delivery service. Determine whether the message was never generated, failed during sending or was accepted but filtered later.

01 Identify the expected notification
Record the order ID, event time, recipient type and email expected. A Pending payment order may not trigger the same message as a paid Processing order. Confirm the actual order event and check whether a customer note or account email is being confused with the normal order notification.
02 Check generation and delivery
- Open WooCommerce > Settings > Emails and confirm the relevant type is enabled.
- Verify the configured recipient for staff alerts and the order's billing email for customer messages.
- Review order notes and available transactional email logs for sent, failed, disabled or skipped attempts.
- Check the configured SMTP or transactional-mail provider for acceptance, rejection or suppression.
- Review scheduled actions if the notification or extension queues work in the background.
- Run one controlled test after correcting the identified cause.
Does a sent log prove the email reached the inbox?
No. It can mean the application successfully handed the message to its mail transport. The receiving service can still reject, quarantine or filter it. Follow the provider's delivery evidence and inspect spam folders rather than treating an application success message as final proof.
Why are there no log entries?
The installed version, email integration and logging configuration affect what is recorded. Check the log level and retention, and enable the relevant diagnostics temporarily if needed. Do not assume that an empty log proves WooCommerce never attempted to send the message.
03 Review sender authentication
Use a sender address authorised for the website's mail service and check the domain's relevant SPF, DKIM and DMARC arrangement. Avoid using an unrelated public mailbox as a forged From address. Mail routing and authentication should be investigated separately from the email template.
04 Resolve without duplicating business actions
Use a supported resend action after delivery is working. Do not repeatedly change order status to force messages, because that can trigger fulfilment or other automation. Share timestamps and redacted errors with support, keeping customer addresses and credentials private. Verify the next normal order notification as well as the test message.
