Changing a mailbox password updates access to that email account through webmail and authenticated mail clients. It does not change the DirectAdmin login or every other mailbox on the domain.

Prepare for the change
Confirm the full address and identify phones, desktop clients and applications using it for SMTP. Generate a strong unique password. If compromise is suspected, plan to review forwarding rules, sent mail and connected devices as well.
01 Change a DirectAdmin mailbox password
- Open E-mail Manager > E-mail Accounts for the correct domain.
- Open the action menu beside the intended address, commonly the plus symbol, and choose the password or password/username change action.
- Enter and save the new password without changing the username unless that separate change is intentional. Store the credential securely.
- Update every authorized mail client and SMTP integration. Outdated saved passwords can cause repeated authentication failures and trigger temporary protection.
- Test a fresh webmail login and a send/receive cycle. Close obsolete sessions where supported and review unauthorized forwarding or other account changes if this followed an incident.
How do I confirm the new mailbox password works?
Confirm the mailbox remains at the same address with its expected messages, and that newly configured clients authenticate successfully. Verify website contact forms or transactional mail that used this SMTP account.
If the change does not work
If login still fails, check the full username, server settings and the password-manager entry. A mailbox quota or DNS failure is not fixed by repeated password resets. For a suspected breach, report the timing and sanitized errors to support; changing the password alone does not remove malicious forwarding or recover deleted messages.
