Add and price WHMCS configurable options

whmcs, resellers

Configurable options let customers choose variations that contribute to a product's price, such as a licensed software tier or extra capacity. An option affects remote provisioning only when the selected module recognises and implements it.

01 Create a scoped option group

  1. Open System Settings and Configurable Options. Create a new group with a clear internal name and associate only the intended products.
  2. Edit the group and choose Add New Configurable Option. Enter the option name required by the integration and select an appropriate input type.
  3. Add the available values, save them and enter their pricing for the product's enabled cycles. Review every supported currency.
  4. Where the integration requires machine values, use the documented required value|display value format to provide a readable customer label.
  5. Save, then test the smallest and largest selections in the cart. Confirm the total and the value received by the provisioning module.

02 Choose useful inputs

A dropdown suits several mutually exclusive choices. Radio buttons make a short list more visible. A yes-or-no choice suits an optional feature, while a quantity suits priced units. State the unit clearly, such as one additional mailbox or one licence seat, and specify the included baseline in the product description.

Do not add an option named Disk Space and assume every panel module will resize the account. Check the module's supported option names, units and upgrade behavior. If fulfilment is manual, document the staff task and expected delivery time.

What should I check before changing options used by existing services?

When retiring a choice, consider hiding it so that existing customers retain their recorded selection. Before renaming machine values or deleting options, identify active services that depend on them and test the resulting renewal and upgrade behavior.

Reconcile a sample order across three places: the customer's selection, the invoiced amount and the delivered resource. This catches pricing that works correctly while the remote setting remains unchanged. Keep an internal mapping for each option so that later administrators know which integration consumes it.
