Add and maintain currencies in WHMCS

whmcs, resellers

Adding a currency to WHMCS creates a pricing and payment responsibility. Confirm how catalogue prices, exchange rates, gateway processing and accounting reports will work before offering that currency to customers.

01 Add and verify the currency

  1. Open System Settings and Currencies. Review the current base currency before making changes.
  2. Under Add Additional Currency, enter the correct currency code, display prefix or suffix, number format and base conversion rate.
  3. Save and review the prices for products, addons, configurable options and domains in the new currency.
  4. Choose whether those catalogue prices are maintained manually or recalculated from the base currency.
  5. Check that each offered gateway supports the currency directly or has a deliberately configured processing conversion.
  6. Test checkout and an invoice payment, comparing the displayed amount and currency with the provider's authorised transaction.

Does updating exchange rates also update product prices?

Updating an exchange rate and recalculating product prices are separate controls. An automatic price update can overwrite a deliberately set local price, so review the selected automation settings before enabling it. Conversely, refreshing rates alone may leave catalogue prices unchanged.

WHMCS's automatic exchange-rate feed supports a defined set of currencies. Confirm that the currency you selected is supported, and establish a manual update process when it is not. Record the date and source of an approved manual rate.

02 Protect historical records

Do not repurpose an existing currency code or change the base-currency identity casually after invoices and transactions exist. Historical values must continue to represent the currency in which they were recorded. A customer's existing billing history also requires care when changing their currency arrangement.

For reporting, compare gross payments, fees and settlement currency separately. A gateway can settle funds in a different currency from the invoice, so a bank payout may not equal the displayed invoice total. Retain the provider's conversion and fee evidence when reconciling the difference.

03 Monitor the first billing cycle

Check a new order, renewal and refund in the added currency before expanding its use across the catalogue.
