Manage a domain transfer as a process that continues after payment. WHMCS can submit the request through a supported registrar module, but the losing registrar, registry and domain holder may still need to complete their parts.
01 Prepare and submit the transfer
- Confirm the domain holder's authorised request and the gaining registrar's current requirements for that extension.
- Check the domain's current status and obtain the required transfer authorisation through the supported secure process.
- Place or review the WHMCS transfer order, including the domain spelling, customer, transfer price and required fields.
- Confirm payment and the selected registrar before allowing the configured submission action.
- Record the registrar's response and monitor the domain's Pending Transfer state through domain sync or the provider's portal.
- After completion, verify the new registrar, expiry date, contact details and intended nameservers.
02 Investigate a stalled transfer
Compare the WHMCS request with the provider's actual transfer status. A rejected code, transfer lock or pending approval needs the corresponding correction. Avoid submitting repeated new transfers without checking whether an earlier request remains active.
Keep DNS and hosting continuity in the transfer plan. Moving registrar ownership does not copy a website or mailbox, and changing nameservers during the same period can create a separate outage if the destination zone is incomplete.
Common questions
Does a paid invoice mean the transfer finished?
No. Payment can initiate submission, while completion must be confirmed by the registrar. Review the transfer result and updated domain record.
Will WHMCS automatically stop billing a domain transferred away?
That depends on the registrar module's transferred-away detection. Verify the remote transfer and local status, then review outstanding renewal invoices and renewal settings.
Can every extension use the same transfer steps?
No. Authorisation, eligibility, term and approval requirements vary. Follow the actual registrar and registry instructions for the domain being moved.
