An OX alias delivers another address into an existing mailbox. It is suitable when one owner handles several business identities, such as a person's address and a small department address. It does not provide an additional independent inbox or licence.

01 Add and test an alias
- Open the OX product details in our client area and choose Manage Email Accounts.
- Select the intended mailbox row to display its aliases.
- Enter the new alias name in the available field and choose Create. Confirm the correct domain and destination mailbox.
- Send an external test to the alias and verify that it reaches the existing inbox.
- In OX webmail, compose a new message and choose the alias as the From address where available. Test the received From, Reply-To and signature.
02 Manage ownership
Maintain a list of where each alias is published, including website forms, invoices and supplier records. A department identity attached to one employee needs a documented handover when that person leaves.
Common questions
Can two people log in separately to the alias?
The alias belongs to its mailbox. Use an approved team-access arrangement or separate accounts when people need independent access. Sharing the mailbox password weakens accountability.
Can I delete an alias without deleting old mail?
Removing the address changes future addressing. Historical messages already delivered remain part of the owning mailbox unless separately removed. Update published references before deleting the alias because future senders may receive delivery failures.
Why does mail sent from the alias show the wrong name?
Inspect the selected From identity and the account's display-name settings. A contact saved by the recipient can also show a different name. Compare the actual message headers using a fresh external test before changing the account.
